Poster Holy Week in Seville 2021

Today Saturday 27 February at the Caja Rural del Sur Foundation, The poster for Holy Week in Seville has been presented 2021 Chema Rodríguez's work.

A poster that arrives loaded with multiple symbolisms and an important reflection in this year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic: A domestic catechesis that exhorts everyone to prayer, to live this next Easter with the family. In the author's words, "This poster expresses a common feeling of the Sevillians: the spontaneous construction of a domestic altar to venerate their devotions ".

The work, conceived from the multiple perspectives that Chema Rodríguez has been gathering during these months through social networks and which is reflected on the back of the poster, offers a wide symbology through various objects that meet on this particular bedside table. Among them, a crown of thorns, sign of the suffering of the Passion of Jesus. "We echo their pain with the coronavirus that plagues the world, cause of so much suffering ", the author points out.

On the wall, the devotions, they all fit, in the figure of Jesus (Jesus del Gran Poder) and of his blessed mother (Esperanza Macarena), who is the mother of all. In the emptiness of the furniture a Rosary appears as a gesture of prayer when alone we have looked death in the face. "We have lived through the tragic pandemic, and at the same time countless conversions " says Chema Rodríguez.

Another of the objects that stand out is an oil lamp, that according to the author "It is light and life, Resurrection and promise ". On the left, on the table, the jewel whose luster makes one forget a lifeless carnation. It is the anchor of our Hope, “the treasure of faith, the cause of our Joy ".

And everything is framed in the graph of the parentheses, to underline the character of this exceptionally particular year.

This is how this original and significant poster is defined, in which a broad and outstanding message of faith prevails: "Conceived to bear witness to the risen Jesus and to keep alive the flame of tradition", Chema Rodríguez highlights.

From a technical point of view, the painting is done in oil on wood, prepared with the traditional recipe that is also applied to the polychrome imagery of our Holy Week. The dimensions of the work is 142 x 89 cm.
