Blessing of animals in the Divina Pastora of Santa Marina by San Antón

As it has been doing since 2005, The Brotherhood of the first Pastor in the world convenes the people of Seville next Wednesday 17 January to the Mass of San Antón and traditional blessing of animals 

One more year, the Primitive and Royal Brotherhood of the Divine Shepherdess of Santa Marina, invites all Sevillians and animal lovers to the traditional Eucharist in honor of San Antón Abad, Pattern of Animals, in its Chapel of the Divina Pastora -located on the central Amparo Street-, during which all animals will be blessed that they be taken to this religious celebration.

As it has been going on since the year 2005, being so this is your 20 edition, dogs, gatos, turtles, hamster or birds, They will meet this Wednesday 17 from January, to 20:30 hours, to the plants of the Pastora of Seville, to receive the blessing on the day of the Feast of the one who is your Patron and protector, giving the particularity that unlike other blessing acts that take place in Seville or other locations of our country, They take place outside the temples, while this is done indoors of the same, and during the course of the Holy Mass that the Brotherhood of the first Pastor in the world dedicates to San Antón Abad.

This quote on Amparo Street is one of many that occur in the annual pastoral calendar, although on this occasion It's doubly special., to be fulfilled 20 years of the pioneering celebration, and framed in the year of preparation for the Canonical Coronation of the Divine Shepherdess, which will take place on Saturday 27 of September, of the next 2025.

It should be noted that this annual gesture with pet animals comes to renew the historical commitment of our Brotherhood with the environment and nature.. We cannot forget that The Divine Shepherdess is venerated surrounded by lambs in the natural environment of the “Altar del Monte” or cliff, in which vegetation and animals take center stage.

So much so that since 1714 the corporation offers one of the days of his novena -first or second Saturday in September- for environmental conservation, praying for all the professionals who are dedicated to protecting him with the texts written by its founder, the Venerable Father Isidoro of Seville. Within the Franciscan spirituality in which this Brotherhood of the Divine Shepherdess was established, Caring for nature has always been one of its priorities, several centuries ahead of the published papal documents, already in contemporary times, by Saint John Paul II and Francis, who promulgated the encyclical “Laudato Sì” in 2015 to alert Christians about the environmental situation.
